Charleston Elementary School

Once called Charleston school, that was mixed of Junior High and Elementary School, Charleston Elementary School revamped its schooling geared more towards elementary kids when the enrollment of student skyrocketed in late 1970's and early 1980's.

Walker Valley High School

Walker Valley High has been in existence since 2001. It was created to help regulate high enrollment throughout Bradley County.


Names narrowed to Hiwassee River High School, River Valley High School and Walker Valley High School, the panel decided on  honoring Chief Jack Walker, a leader of the Cherokee Nation who lived in the valley in the early 19th century as reflection of the heritage of the area of Charleston.

Charleston City Garbage Pickup

The City of Charleston facilitates pickup service within the city limits provided by an authorized third-party vendor.


Garbage pickup is once weekly on Friday between 7AM and 12 noon depending upon location on the garbage pickup route. The city strongly recommends placing garbage at the street on Thursday evening or you may miss pickup.

Trash must be bagged appropriately, and a maximum of 10 bags are permitted per household per pickup. Only household trash is accepted. Cardboard must be broken down and bagged or tied together. Hazardous chemicals and liquids, large items such as furniture, construction debris, or otherwise are not accepted and must be taken to an appropriate disposal facility.


Trash pickup will be postponed to the next business day in the event of a federal holiday or a limiting circumstance that delays service.


There is no fee for this service.
